Would you be in favor of pulling our troops from Iraq and sending them to Myanmar to liberate its people

Would you be in favor of pulling our troops from Iraq and sending them to Myanmar to liberate its people?
I know there's no oil over there, but if Americans are as serious about spreading freedom, democracy, and human rights around the world as they claim to be, surely the Burmese people need our help as much or more than the Iraqis? How about if we pull our troops from Iraq and send them to fight for a TRULY noble and legitimate cause in Myanmar? And unlike the Iraqis, the Burmese (and the world) will welcome American troops with open arms and regard them as liberators, not occupiers. Sanctions like those Bush has proposed simply won't be enough. The only way is the military way. The only question is, do Americans have the will to liberate these long suffering people? Or is America's devotion to democracy and human rights just hollow lip service and restricted only to countries with vast oil reserves? PS: If Bush decides to send troops into Myanmar, I pledge to immediately enlist in the military. PPS: Long live Aung San Suu Kyi.

Are u crazy.?
2 :
No, sorry, you said it.... No oil, no liberation... We don't provide freedom as a service you know... We wanna get paid like everybody else..
3 :
Why the Hell should we? The rest of the world doesnt appreciate Americas help unless its in cold hard cash - and even then as soon as they get the money in their greedy hands they resume bashing America once again. The second America would send troops in or do anything at all to help out we would once again be called war mongers.
4 :
What in the world makes you think you can "spread" democracy? Good god, the very concept of democracy involves the people doing it for themselves. What an idiotic idea, trying to go around and "protect" the entire population of the world from their own home-grown bullies. The people have the government they deserve because they have the government they allow to exist. Give the people of Burma some credit and let them take care of their own government. I would be in favor of pulling our troops from Iraq, sure. But sending them to Burma is one of the stupidest ideas around.
5 :
Inasmuch as we don't get much in the way of oil from Iraq, it would seem obvious that there is no real connection between oil and military action. Myanmar has never been a terrorist threat to the USA, so it is unlikely we will send troops there. I think you should enlist either way. Long live George W. Bush.
6 :
I agree the people of Myanmar need help, now! I'm not sure America would be seen as liberaters, more as opportunist. India or another Budist country like China should better intervene .
7 :
What the f... is wrong with you?? Are you some STRANGE NEW KIND OF IDIOT??? Did your parents beat you as a child? Why explain it to you?...You don't have the cognitive abilities to understand what war is. If you can't see from our experience in Iraq and Afghanistan that war is a archaic and primitive way to settle differences then you're just stuck on stupid. Look at Darfur idiot......What do you want to do about that? Then whats next? Who the F... wants to live like that? constant war from generation to generation. IDIOT!
8 :
I am very surprised that the troops haven't been sent to Burma as there are oil and gas reserves there. The oil company TOTAL are over there are that is where the military regime are getting their money from. http://www.burmacampaign.org.uk/total_report.html
9 :
Yes. Absolutely !!!
10 :
B.S. on you and Burma, some of our men, and women have been gone for over three years now, including my grandson. If you want to save Burma so bad go and enlist yourself. I and my whole family put in our time for our country, what did you do?

You really shouldn't smoke dope and ask questions like this.

Situation in Myanmar, what ASEAN and UN should do

Situation in Myanmar, what ASEAN and UN should do?
So, I was reading the news lately and that the issue in Myanmar always shows up on the frontpage of different websites. I feel sorry for the people of Myanmar (monks, nuns and civilians). They're just expressing themselves peacefully and why is that the government always have to use force to these people to control their lives? The government is so greedy of the power and abusing it too much! So, I need your opinion about this issue. What should the ASEAN (Association of South East Asia Nation) and UN (United Nation) should do to stop this tyranny and oppression and help the people of Myanmar to have a freedom of speech and live their lives normally?

Not only ASEAN and UN but also all the world must discontinue diplomatic connection with Myanmar. Stop supporting of Military Government who use troops which was bought by tax from the people in Myanmar. Force to close diplomatic stations all over the world and take an action as terrorist. Arrest the worst terrorist Senior General Than Shwe and his followers. Save 50 Millions people in Myanmar.

You are right in stating the true facts in your question. ASEAN, UN , UK , US has done nothing but harm to us for the past tow decades by their actions or non actions. Some thing is wrong very much some where. Burma can not be left like this nor be boycott. May be China can influence them. Engagement is better than isolation. Please send books for libraries for people to be educated if you do not want to help the military government. people are very naive and ignorant there including the generals. Microcredit and medicines needed. UN staff are not effective in helping the country. Go to Burma and meet and help the people inside. Do not leave them alone.

This is a very interesting question. ASEAN can do alot to make changes in Burma. It can politically as well as economically pressure Burma. e.g. to remove from ASEAN or impose economics sanction just to name a few. However, ASEAN will not do anything but just watch as they will never touch internal affair of another member nation. Hopeless from ASEAN!!! UN can do way more than we can think of. But as long as Russia and China is still standing for Burma, UN or UN security Council is powerless...just like a tiger without teeth. Hopefully they can send peacekeepers to Burma is situation is getting worse. But we need to evidence of such situation. Anyhow, the best way is to get target to China and to block OLYMPICS IN THEIR COUNTRY if they don't reconsider their stand wisely.

the problem here is "no one really want to help" them i can see only those leader talking and talking this is not the first time for people of Myanmar on bloodbath and i bet the Myanmar gov will get aways with this again. last time some 3000 life were loosed and i have seen no one help them. how many will loose their life this time? i don't know but i know that no one will help them. UN? give me a brake! here is the place to get what the 5 supper power want, not a place for some 3rd world unknow country. USA n UK ? humm... myanmar got oil? if not, get loose! ASEAN? they never help out each other more than talking. china n russian? no way, we earn a lot of money from them. Europe or japan? US and UK won't move we won't either. now i see how it will end.

I would recommend Thailand outside of Bangkok a small resort town I would not buy only rent It use to be you can live well for around $2000 per month once you get the hang of it I would not live in Burma too dangerous nor Japan too expenses and not accepting One more thing don't lead with your wallet in Thailand just keep a low profile and enjoy Lived there for three years I rented a beach house for $600 per month restaurant walking distance was $3 for a crab dinner and two beers House keeper if you want one was $5 per day If you do it right you can fly anywhere in Asia from Bangkok for around $200 round trip Air Asia You well have to go to Bangkok and pay around $80 every three months to renew your immigration visa They well tell you that you must deposit $16,000 in a Thai bank Not true But I know an old brit that would do it live on it for a year or so than do it again

Every country has immigration laws much the same as the US. You can't just turn up and live where you want. China is a no-no. You can only stay if you are legally employed and are under 60. Or have a Chinese wife. Burma (Myanmar). Are you joking? Japan. Very expensive. And again you need a reason to be there other than just wanting to be. In Asia, Thailand is possible your best bet, but you will still only be given a short time tourist stay and have to leave periodically then return.

You should plan a month-long visit to each of your possible retirement countries, but leave off China and Burma for reasons noted by another poster. Japan is very expensive and outsiders are not really welcome. You may live there for five years and never be invited into a neighbor's home. Also, apartments are very small and expensive and houses are out of sight. You will need to learn the language, and that's not easy in Asia. I would consider retiring in Mexico if it cleans up its drug cartels or Costa Rica. Both have established American communities that cater to our retirees, but both have security problems. I don't want tp have to live in a high-walled community with armed guards. Check with the State Department for info on foreign retirement destinations. Asia is a long way away and flights are long and expensive. Unless you have a fat wallet, don't plan on coming home for visits too often. And don't buy -- rent. You may decide to return home for good after spending some time in a foreign country.

Being as He died on October 3rd 1226 I doubt if cameras were invented then? Seriously the largest I can find is in the first link, the second link is a good starting place. Chris
