Peacock in my front yard

Peacock in my front yard?
Today I get to my house and I hear my dog barking, usually it's a sign that there is a deer or a bird or some type of animal outside that she wants to chase; but not today. I live in New Jersey, desidious forest area on a house near a farm on top of a hill. I look outside the window and I see a 6 foot male peacock on my front porch, which was extremely exciting and odd. It has a blue neck and beautiful tail of feathers. I searched on google to see if this habitat is normal, and the answers I found were very unhelpful. They naturally live in Asia and Africa; places like India, China, and Burma. Do peacocks live in this environment? Any other information would be helpful because I'm trying to figure out how and why it got on my porch.

No, they aren't native to america. It mostly likely escaped from a private owner. I would call animal control right away! Im not sure, it varies from state to state, but it may be illegal to own in your state with out a license!

I'd go up to the farm you live near and ask if it's there. We used to own one and he was quite mean! He'd chase us. He'd go wondering for food if we didn't feed him yet. Be careful, they may chase you (that's why we rehomed him, he pecked my sister several times when she was in the yard playing) They don't stay in pens very well.

Yes , in southern climates, without freezing winters. it is probably 'domesticated' which is only a partial not like a family dove, It found you place accomodating, but will be on the search for food. Most owners get regular peacock food and many let them run 'wild' on their property. So they may end up most anywhere. Peacocks will do well in the mid and far west, and florida. they are not native of the USA David in Jesus amazing grace that saved me John chapter 3 and then gave me John 10 the life more abundantly Revelation 3:19&20 I prayed "I need you Jesus help me, I am sorry for my sins, come into my heart and be my friend, amen" It tells how Jesus knocks on our heart door to come in and be our friend if we ask him in to forgive sin. Have a great day, and welcome to peacock world

I am not aware of the North American Continent being a natural habitat of the Peacock. Most Peacocks were brought to this country and as there was found to be a market for them as an exoctic pet their population has grown. I would suspect that one of two things has happened. . . .1) This bird got loose from it's owner. . . . . 2) It's owner got tired of taking care of it and though it to be in the bird's best interest to just let it go verses trying to find it another owner. Now,I really doubt that the bird is 6ft as they generally don't grow that tall. It might have a 6ft length measuring from it's head to the end of it's tail but as far as height, they are generally 3-4ft tall from the top of their head to the floor. A peacock could live by it'self as it is a bird and has the natural instinct to forage but you could help it some and enjoy it's beauty at the same time. Go to a Feed Store and get some Scratch (mixture of grains) and keep some of it out for the bird. . . . either until the owner shows up or until you get tired of hearing it's "cry" which can almost sound like a cat with it's tail stuck in a door. My neighbor has a pair of Peacocks and since I don't live right across the street from him,the Peacock cry is somewhat facinating to me and I enjoy it but the neighbors right across the street from it is tired of it's "cry".

someone in northern virginia was raising peacocks, decided he didn't want to do it anymore, and let them all go. they are surviving just fine. They are generally spotted during mating season. get out your camera.

I moved to a colder place, and all of a sudden I have acne.. is it because of the location

I moved to a colder place, and all of a sudden I have acne.. is it because of the location?
I was born in Burma and have lived there, Malaysia, and then Los Angeles; I had never really had acne for those 20 years of my life, but then I moved to Santa Cruz, CA, last year.. and now I have insane acne! I mean it's not INSANE, but it is noticeable. The worst part is that it scars. I also cannot keep my hands off my bumpy-ass face, so that part sucks, as well. Santa Cruz is about 10 degrees colder, has very clean air, and a little bit more humid than LA. But I don't think it is humidity, since Malaysia is the most humid place ever. Also, I live in a high-elevation area, so the air definitely is different from LA. Could this be the cause? And if so, what will help? Benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid have not helped, and I really would like to stop feeling so ugly while still being able to live in Santa Cruz. Thanks in advance :)

It could be from the stresses of moving.

Yes, I was alive when I saw one.
2 :
Do you mean BEACHED whale? If so, no, I have not, it is very rare to see one.
3 :
NO.
4 :
There are 20 species of beaked whales so being more specific would not be a bad thing. Yes, some of them do reside in the Pacific Ocean although I thought Burma was near the Indian Ocean. I have never seen a beaked whale out at sea if your intent was to take a quick poll of yahoo users. If the question was only for those who have seen them and if you haven't you weren't supposed to reply forgive the misinterpretation. Included a link for you to find out more information on beaked whales. My pleasure.

Whats the cost of living in southeast Asia

Whats the cost of living in southeast Asia?
I'm American and I'm thinking of spending a gap year there. I would like to volunteer with NGOs in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, or Burma. I'm wondering how much it will cost for me to live in any of these countries while I try to find some sort of job. All advice is helpful and welcome. Thanks.

Cost of living in South East Asia is lower than the United States. I've been to Thailand and Philippines the cost of living their is really cheap compared to the other countries like Japan.

Cost of life in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam is very low compared to the US. You can live easily with 600-700 bucks/month , there (with no frills, though). Thailand is a quite more expensive place to live in , and there the Government has drastically reduced the operating licenses to many NGOs in the past few years. They feel as they do not need help. Burma? forget it. The military junta does not like NGOs, and the few of them operating in the country are UN-related Funds. You won't last a single day there as a loner. Laos and Vietnam also are difficult place to volunteer. Cambodia is where International donors and NGOs are covering 85 percent of the national budget, and no hassle exists for the volunteers. I have been volunteering in Cambodia for one year and a half already. The biggest NGOs may ( and often they do)offer full boarding (only, no salaries nor pocket money, health insurance) to foreign volunteers. A very limited number of NGOs might even grant the use of a vehicle ( usually a 125 cc. motorbike) to their volunteers (while the management travels in brand-new, tax-free Lexus and Land Cruiser cars). Contact them before you head for Cambodia to volunteer, don't go there and ask around because they don't like "walk-in"volunteers with no previous screening, they prefer people ( mainly tourists) who go there to visit their projects, shot some pics to the poor orphans/disadvantaged kids, make a donation and leave. Expect to be asked an Interpol clearance if the NGO you 're working in is dealing with minors. You can contact me at webdeveloping@rocketmail.com if you need names of the big NGOs in the country , or you can find many of them on the following website: http://www.ngoforum.org.kh/eng/core/
