I know what it is like to be starting a new life because I had to leave my old job, because I couldn't handle it because of my depression and other mental disorders that I had to do what I had to do because it was either me quitting or have be fired.... but that is my situation.... I am going to school now to start a new career path, hopeful get a new job to pay for things....

Good morning: how is it possible to say - with a straight face - "In God We Trust"

Good morning: how is it possible to say - with a straight face - "In God We Trust" - ?
when we (in the US) have chased native peoples off the land where we live, ruined their civilization, and killed them ? First we commit acts against God (see commandments), then whistle dixie and pretend there is a God on our side, and deny that the whole thing ever happened .... is that it? Isn't that a little presumptuous? So....then what happens? We get ourselves bad karma, and to work it off find ourselves digging people out of wars, helping to resturcture crumbling civilizations (Iraq) under the guise of being at war, offering assistance after natural disasters in other countries ---- until we repent and Myanmar says, "No, I think you are off the hook now"? Well, can we leave this place? Is it over? All is forgiven, please come home ? xxx

actually in the bible there are instructions of how to mass murder civilizations in order to take their lands. so in god we trust
2 :
Every single country in the history of man was founded on war. The more advanced culture wins and life goes on. There were wars between different native tribes for the same reasons.
3 :
It's called aaaaacting!
4 :
Im with you here.....How do we claim to be a nation created by God, when the very foundation of our country is laid on the blood of those we murdered? Will God bless our land for murder and theft...? a man taking by force, a country, and setting up a nation, dedicating it to God...does not in anyway...make it under blessed by, or approved of by God.
5 :
we are prone to error we are not perfect and god knows this. the quote "In God We Trust" simply means we put our lives into God's hands... not that we are godlike or anything. And even if we repent it is not up to other people to forgive us, it is up to God. So it is what is in your heart. God knows if the things you do are evil or not intended to be and if you ask for forgiveness or not. No person (including you) has any right to judge.. .just remember let he who is free of sin cast the first stone
6 :
All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. America isn't perfect we are just humans and we all make mistakes. But we trust and have faith in God no matter how much we mess up and make bad decisions he'll be right there to pick up up when we fall or forgive us our sin or clean up where w e messed up.
7 :
Jackie (above) is SO right... Unfortunately. "In God We Trust"??? Yeah, RIGHT.
8 :
Great, now I have "Dixie" stuck in my head. Besides, I thought the Indians WANTED to move to Oklahoma.
9 :
Don't be lame. If the U.S. had bad karma why would we be a superpower? I think Myanmar is the country with bad karma, and the Sudan. And lots of other countries. Western Europe and the U.S. have some pretty good karma the way I see it. here is a song you might like, most people like it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=u5Snehl2bAk
10 :
"In God " I trust, this is a good Morning.
11 :
This Earth belongs to Satan and Mankind are not perfect as is God. So, we are susceptible to the temptations of Evil. Most of us find it difficult to resist Money, Power, Glory, Fame, Sex, Self adoration, Vanity. What you are objecting to is the fact that we are not perfect. So we have hope and faith that God will forgive us our sins for change is so difficult.
12 :
I can say "in God I trust" with a straight face...and I can even say "in God we trust" when I'm talking about the people I know that really do trust him. However, I agree that it is a more than just a little ridiculous to suggest that this country as a whole trusts God. "...one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all"...ROTFL...since when? We may still be one nation but that's debatable...we haven't been "under God" (except in the way that all nations are under God) in a long time (if ever)...and we have NEVER extended the blessings of liberty and justice to everyone!!!
13 :
I think that the term "In God We Trust" is actually used more as a matter of course and is mostly meant to help establish a national identity. We are a country founded, not on war as others have said but, on the concept of the freedom from religious persecution or not having a religion at all. You do not have to look across the pond... keep your eyes right hear and think how it can be offensive to one that does not believe in a "Biblical God' to even have that sh!t stamped on our money. After all, we have a freedom of religion or lack thereof... why keep forcing God down other's throats. Crap... I'm choking!
14 :
People aren't perfect, you know. How do you know the colonist were christians? they could be anthing and chased them off of their lands. I feel sorry for you. You don't get it at all. Poor, poor child. Chist did live. there are historical records of his life and exicution. He did what he said he did. And you think it's wrong to help other countries under muderous dictators? You think it's evil to root out the dictator to save millions of innosent lives? YOU are the masochist here. Seriously, if you think that we sought out sudam houssein or whatever the hell his name is just to prove a point, then you are wrong. we saved lives. and now we are working to build them back up again. some people over there are trying to fight us and the iraque people for terror to reign again. And you seem to be one of those liberal turban heads yourself. Democrats... cant live with them, cant live without them because they supposedly "care" about America's "gone green" campagn. you all want to go green in america and allow the slaughterrs to continue in a country that cant even defend themselves against their own poor, poor government. sad...
15 :
Holy crap! You are wound so tight there's no way to begin unraveling your tangled incoherencies. Your question is completely packed with classic misconceptions, really bad information, and the illogical thinking of post-modernism. You're a mess!
16 :
In God I do trust. I wasn't here when the Native Americans were driven off their land. I have no control over the weather. I don't control what happens in Iraq or any place else. I help people daily but it's well beyond me to be able to help each and every individual that has experienced a tragity or heartache in their life. My sphere of influence is limited but I do what I am lead to do by the Holy Spirit. Blaming God is easy to do but it's a cop out to say the least. All throughout the Bible God has given His love, His guidance and compassion to His creation but what happens? it's tossed back in His face by us puny, pathetic and ungrateful humans. Adam and Eve brought sin into this world and it has been destroying lives ever since. Why is there so much violence and destruction in this world? sin. Why is there so much hatred in this world? sin. Why is there so much death and illness in this world? sin. Down through the centuries since creation God has given mankind chance after chance after chance to turn to Him and be blessed but what did they do? thumbed their nose at Him and said--' I don't need you God". God is a God of love but He is also a God of judgment and justice. A holy God cannot and will not allow rampant sin to choke the life out of people for ever. Yes He sends judgment but look around you and see why. I reiterate, He has given us so many chances to embrace Him, to love Him and look to Him for strength, guidance and eternal life but we spit in His face. He went the ultimate route and gave His only begotten Son to die for the very sins that are destroying this world but what does this world do? tosses His love back in His face. We are without exscuse. From Adam and Eve on if mankind would have taken responsibility for their own actions and accepted the love God offered, we wouldn't be in the stinking mess that we are in now. Stop blaming God and stop blaming everyone else for the ills of this world. Take responsibility for your actions and stop putting the blame on others to make yourself look and feel better.

Can anyone give me any real world examples of nations where small or no government works better for the people

Can anyone give me any real world examples of nations where small or no government works better for the people?
Since Reagan was elected in 1980, I've been hearing that "big government" is the enemy. The smaller the government is the better it is for the citizens. Government run programs are inefficient...etc. When I try to think of countries with little or no national government all I can come up with are countries like Zimbabwe, the Congo, Somalia, Iraq I think it would be safe to say that in these countries life is miserable, dangerous, short and cheap and genocides, famine, unemployment, corporate exploitation and guerrilla warfare are all too common. When I think of nations with strong militaries but little or no social safety nets, I think of nations like Myanmar, Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia where public dissent is rare, but only because it's dangerous to the people who engage in it. The happiest people in the world, according to surveys at least, live mostly in Scandinavian nations like Denmark, nations with very big, strong social safety nets. Does anyone know of any nation with little or no national, governmental support of it's citizens where most people are happy, healthy and care for each other? What nation would that be?

You might want to look at Hong Kong, which is still governed independently (mostly) of China, and has tried to maintain a small government policy. Whether it works or not is really a matter of opinion. Other than that, I can only offer you the following articles, which might lead you to what you are looking for. I don't know of any government that is all small government, all the time, just a number that try and incorporate some of the policies into their own, including the US and New Zealand. Although, now that I think about it, you might want to look into some historic tribal governments for comparison.

You're kind of going this in the wrong direction. It's impossible to answer this question because you’re looking for responses that come from different angles. Truth be told, we need a government to run a nation and take care of its citizens. Sadly, we live in a capitalist society dictates the choices people make. You mentioned that nations such as Denmark were â€Å“happy,” that may be true, but you’re failing recognize that even though America and Denmark have â€Å“big governments,” they’re two different nations. So, what I’m trying to say is that, it’s not really about a big government or a little government, it’s about a government being capable of care for it citizens and its citizens willing to come together and move forward. In this day and age, our nation is too, â€Å“Liberal this, liberal that. Conservatives this, conservatives that.” We play the blame game too much and focus too much on defending ideologies that distract us from the real issue. I propose we all come together, accept one another, have fair politicians, listen to public interest, and have a government that takes care of its citizens. Sounds like an illusion, doesn’t it? Now, America is very, very different from a nation such as Denmark. America is a very capatilist nation, the way this nation operates is all about money.

The Republicans never did anything to reduce the size of government. That was a smokescreen for their real goal of more government interference in our personal lives and more wars. Currently, there is not a country where the government is small. However, such countries existed in the past, specifically much of the West during the late 1700s and the 1800s. Laissez-Faire was fantastically successful during its era, as living standards rose at an unprecedented rate. However, although everybody's living standards were far better than they had been in the past, not everybody's living standards rose at the same rate. Many people grew jealous of the great wealth of the most successful people and many people found God and decided that God wanted them to ban alcohol and sex, so big government was created. Yes, laissez-faire does not maximize happiness (because of the existence of anti-social traits such as jealousy, especially among people of less ability), but the goal is not to maximize happiness. The goal ought to be to maximize prosperity, which is what laissez-faire does best. Welfare states may work in the short term, but eventually you run out of money and become impoverished. Only a world of laissez-faire (preferably with better safeguards to prevent statist reactionaries from gaining power; either steep property requirements for voting or the abolition of government entirely might work) can be sustainable in the long run.

What Thai embassies issue tourist visas for people making visa runs

What Thai embassies issue tourist visas for people making visa runs?
Hi. I live in Bangkok as a tourist. I make 3 visa-exempt visa runs and then get a visa at Vientane, Laos for a 60 day tourist visa and then another 60 day tourist visa to get around the 6 month rule. But I want to move outside of Bangkok to get away from the city pollution and also to see other places. I'm interested in Phuket and other areas. But is there a Royal Thai embassy besides the one in Laos where I can conveniently cross the border and get a tourist visa? What about Malaysia and Myanmar? What about Cambodia? I haven't been in Thailand long enough to be familiar with it. I don't want to have to go back to my home country to apply for a tourist visa, so I'm asking. On a related note, is there one place in Thailand where it's possible to make visa runs (both visa-exempt stamps and tourist visas) on your own without a visa run service? Like takin the train to the border/embassy?

You can do the tourist visas in just about all countries surrounding Thailand. Your issue may very well be that once an embassy in the SEA region sees what you are doing - hopping around different emabassies getting 60 day tourist visas...they well may stamp your passport up saying you will not be issued with a visa from a specific embassy or consulate, ie they may give you one are two visa's and tell you not to come back... Certainly dont bother with the Thai embassy in Singapore as they will stamp you once or twice and definitely tell you not to come back... Check on Thaivisa.com, there are always write ups on which embassies/consulates are pretty easy to get multiple visa's...if memory serves Vientane is the flavour of the month at the moment. You dont need a visa run service to do any of this, but it makes it easier..as which ever land border you go through, the company knows the routine.
2 :
you can go down to KL Malaysia from Phuket.
3 :
why have the hassle? I use a one year visa and forego the pain of visa runs
