Burma

Burma....=[?
surely cant we get all the big rich countries like England, America, Japan etc. to get all our weapons together, and threaten Burma to let their people free and do what they want, or perhaps do a treaty of versailles similar thing that we did with Germany near WW2. It seems so unfair to let us just sit back and watch this poor poor country live like this and let their 'government' just get away with it, whilst we live our lives so wonderfully in these richer countries...?! Anyone agree? I know i cant really do much, but it just upsets me, and wanted to see if anyone shared my views! x

No that would cause another conflict war in hiding. .. .. .. And then all would be losers the people of the country the major losing party .. . ..

We can't possibly assembly all the rich countries and pound away the government of Myanmar or Burma for that matter. First, Myanmar is just a poor country, not much resources these rich countries can buy or make business with. Myanmar is just a poor agricultural country. Probably their rice is just sufficient for their daily consumption and couldn't export their rich harvest to other countries like Vietnam, Thailand or the Philippines. So why does the US or UK have to intervene for the sake of Myanmar even if as you said their people are not free being put to so much sacrifices by their military ruled junta. Gone are the days of the treaty of versailles, or the days of Germany in WW2, Myanmar didn't invade another country, did they? They are prosecuting its own people that is the problem, and this according to international law is a DOMESTIC AFFAIR, no country can or should interfer with another countries internal affair otherwise these can be construed to be intervention of their internal affairs. Can UK tell the US to do this or that? Of course not, that is simply intervention. That is the same story here in Myanmar. The UN for one thing can tell Myanmar about what he is doing to their affairs but has no power to tell them to stop it or threaten its government, this is foreign diplomacy. Yes that is exactly what we should be doing only sit back and watch the horror of this poor country and just let everything get away with it. The US for one thing, couldn't send its US marine forces to invade Myanmar, otherwise, the US might thing everything can be resolve by violence which the UN abhor this kind of method world wide. Only NGO(non-government organization) is the only entity that is sending medical missionary, food, aid for this people. Nothing the other countries can do. Imagine the military has already put themselves since 1962 until now. If the US had done something about Myanmar they could have done it in 1970's already. The problem with the US government, if they will not benefit from one country they do not give a damn about it, esp. a poor country like Myanmar, but if the country has oil probably just a few days they are condemning the government or even send feelers like aircraft carriers within striking range on the country concern. But Myanmar? The US is definitely not interested.

Burma Protests / Monks / Unarmed

Burma Protests / Monks / Unarmed?
Why is it that the only time the UK and USA involve themselves is when there is Serious Financial Gain for them ? Gordon Brown and Bush should be ashamed of themselves . Sky news is giving live coverage of events unfolding that simply should not be allowed in this age [2007] Lets assist the monks and stop MILLITARY RULE

I agree with you, but then where do you stop? There are so many hundreds of vile, repressive regimes (military and otherwise) across the world ... are the "world policemen" (US/UK) going to take it on themselves to get rid of all of them? Actually, never mind where would you stop, where would you even start? Even Robert Mugabe is the thin end of the wedge when it comes to dictators in Africa alone. Where are all the troops, etc coming from? While we're on the subject, let's not forget that probably the world's biggest and most powerful developing nation - China - boasts a ruling regime that is among the world's most evil and oppressive, but all our governments let the Chinese get away with murder (literally) because we can't afford not to do business with them. And by the way, China is also the Burmese generals' best friend. If any "policemen" get involved it should be through the United Nations, but what good are they? B&*%$r all, quite frankly. They call on Burma to "show restraint". What's Burmese for "p*^s off"?

It's post like yours that tell me why we shouldn't get involved. For one after looking at the world map I see that there are many other countries besides the UK and US that could get involved and don't. Is it for the same reasons you accuse us of. Why should it always be the US or UK every time we try and help someone all we get is stabbed in the back and your post is good evidence of this.

I agree that because Burma is considered China's problem, the British and US are reluctant to act. The story would have been very different if Burma had oil resources.

Rambo. The greatest war movie ever committed to film

Rambo. The greatest war movie ever committed to film?
No movie has ever depicted the brutal and horrific reality of war like "Rambo". A combination of no-nonsense direction, and clear acting convey the plight of the innocent people of Burma (and we can only imagine, that of similar people around other troubled parts of the world). We, the audience can be grateful that we live in a nation without such evil attrocities occurring to us and our families. The first time ever that I have been to the cinema twice to watch the same movie. Also, the first time ever that people of all ages and backgrounds stood up and applauded at the movie`s end, on both occasions. Mr Stallone should be commended for his work. A true masterpiece. .

I wouldn't say that it is the best ever, but I agree that it is a very very good film that I enjoyed a ton. Other movies that I think got it pretty good are "we were soldiers" and obviously "saving provate ryan." "flags of our fathers" is good too, but isnt about eh actuall fighting as much as politics. Rambo does do a very good job showing the utter brutality of totalitarian governments and how citizens' lives are demoralized to objects of sport. I also noticed how people of all ages seemed to appreciate this movie both for its great melding of action movie and real world problem themes.
2 :
OK, if you are serious, Rambo doesn;t come close, rambo NEVER came close, as it is filled with too much histrionics and superficial characters. you want brutality, "Saving Private Ryan", "The Big Red One" "All's Quiet on the Western Front" take the lead.
3 :
It was entertaining, but much of it was super-human fantasy. If you want to see a superbly written and directly war movie that depicts a turning moment in history, watch "The Longest Day." Not as entertaining, perhaps, but real and yet artful.
4 :
Haven't seen the movie so can't comment on it, but with respect to movies that accurately depict war, if you're looking for something from a much different perspective, try Das Boot. It's a German film about submarine warfare during WW II. Very realistic description. Also a very long movie. It will wear you out, emotionally.
5 :
Rambo was ok there are alot of better war movies out like we were soldiers, the patriot, flags of are fathers, saving private Ryan, and not that many war scenes but home of the brave was good really makes you appreciate the stuff we put our soldiers through.

somebody ought to be committed alright.

Pray for Burma please

Pray for Burma please?
Who knows how many have been killed, and how the sanitation problems after the storm may make many people sick! If the "junta" failed to warn people, they have this on their heads. My sis-in-law and her new twin babies live in Yangon, the internet is down, will you pray for them too? We probably won't hear from them for a long time and we have no way of knowing.

Yes, I will pray for all the people in Myanmar, and I will include your sister-in-law and her twin babies in those prayers.
2 :
Yes its sad but I wonder how many of these 10,000 were killed not by the cyclone but by their own military junta. ? Could this just be a way to justify the huge number of missing persons even before the terrible cyclone. ?
3 :
I never pray for anybody..The church had a special prayer service for my sick aunt and she died.
4 :
I pray that the money goes to the humanitarian efforts and give the Burmese shelters and blankets. Medicine if they caught a fever. I pray for fresh bottled water for all the victims. I pray no one dies of diseases. Lots of fresh fruits and food aids needed. Cuddly-stuff animals can be distributed for kids so they don't feel scared. I really do hope to see better results than Hurricane Katrina even though the death number is nearly 20x.
5 :
Yes, and the international community is responding generously. We can only hope that the favor would be returned if we are ever in a situation like this.
6 :
I am. Our whole world needs to have a spiritual wake-up! No good blaming God...it's man who needs to stop cruelty. Hopefully Burma will be free after this huge storm..
