Burma is second only to North Korea as being the worse place on the planet to live. The people are fine, but the government is one of the worst. Nothing like Thailand. The fact that you used "Burma" over it's current name says something...I'd be scared to go there myself. Sorry.

Entry Requirements - Visa Requirements A visa is required to visit Burma. Visa on arrival was suspended from 1 September 2010. British nationals should apply for a visa in advance at the nearest Burmese embassy or Consulate before travelling. http://www.fco.gov.uk/content/en/contact/asia-oceana/dl-burma .. There are no direct flights from London to Rangoon. You will need to have at least one stop in Malaysia, Singapore, or Thailand. http://www.kayak.co.uk

Never been there but dream of this country and plan a trip to there... All ppl who have been there say it is perfectly safe. It's kind of a time machine - you go to 50's of the last century - no mobile connection, no internet, lousy roads, steam engine trains etc. But people are nice and Myanmar (Burma) has a reputaion of the SAFEST country in the South-Eastern Asia. NOTHING similar to Thailand. Once in a life experience. Places that are must-see: Bagan Temples and Shwedagon Temple in Yangon. Ngapali Beaches have a reputation of the best beaches in the region. Even if compared to Thailand. Military junta has nothing to do with tourists and is interested in tourism development. So feel safe. Burma used to issue visas on arrival between May and September 2010, I hope they will resume this practice soon after the election that has taken place 7th of November. Now you have to apply for visa and it normally takes 3-5 days. Then I will bring my family there for a week or two. Quite affordable and easy to do-it-yourself by the way.
